For more than 15 years, Clay has worked closely with leadership of academic medical centers (AMCs) to assess and improve the strategic, operational, and financial performance of their organizations. Clay's clients rely on his deep expertise in evaluating and improving the finances, operations, and organizational infrastructure of schools of medicine (SOMs) and other health sciences schools and in developing financial and other affiliations across the multiple entities of an AMC. In a period marked by declining institutional funds for education and research, AMC leaders trust Clay's guidance on the strategic investment of limited resources. He has developed and implemented affiliation and funds flow arrangements for SOMs, faculty practice plans (FPPs), and teaching hospitals; designed resource management systems that link clinical, research, and educational productivity with financial performance; revised organizational models for health science center, SOM, FPP, and department administrative structure; and created faculty compensation and strategic/business plans for SOMs and their component departments.
